These terms govern free founding submissions and any later paid submission to HUMANITY.TXT. They are available before publication and may be saved or printed.

2. The service
HUMANITY.TXT lets an adult submit one line of up to 240 characters for immediate publication in a public, numbered, machine-readable archive. It is an artistic and archival internet project, not a recognized standard, preservation institution, safety service, or promise that any artificial intelligence will read or act on a message.
3. Eligibility and order process
You must be at least 18, have legal capacity, and own or have permission to publish your text. Before publication you can review and correct the alias, optional country or region, and message. During the founding phase, confirming the exact preview publishes the line without requesting payment-card details. After that phase, the interface may open Stripe Checkout and will show the final amount and payment obligation before confirmation.
4. Founding phase, price and performance
The first 20 accepted lines are sponsored by HUMANITY.TXT and cost the participant nothing. No payment card is requested for those lines. After those places are filled, HUMANITY.TXT may reinstate a paid submission flow with a reference price of USD $1. The dollar adds a small cost to automated spam and acts as a commitment signal; it is not proof of identity. When payment applies, the exact total and currency presented by Stripe before confirmation are binding, and HUMANITY.TXT adds no payment-method surcharge.
An accepted founding line is published immediately and receives the next available HUMAN #. Numbers are assigned in publication order and are never reserved or sold separately. In a later paid phase, publication occurs after successful payment.
5. Immediate performance and withdrawal
Founding submissions involve no payment. When a paid flow applies, you expressly request performance before the end of the statutory 14-day withdrawal period and acknowledge that, once the publication service has been fully performed, you lose that right for the completed service. Where a withdrawal right remains applicable, you can use the online withdrawal function. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
6. Your public submission
Do not submit contact details, sensitive personal information, unlawful content, threats, harassment, hate, spam, impersonation, or information about another person without permission. You grant the operator a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, format, index and distribute the submission as part of the archive for the duration of publication.
7. Public by design
Your alias, optional country or region, message, publication date and HUMAN # become public. Search engines, crawlers, archives and third parties may copy them. Removal from our live archive cannot remove independent copies.
8. Moderation, removal and refunds
Content can be reported from its public page. Removal requests are reviewed by the operator and may require information reasonably necessary to verify the request. We may reject, hide or remove content that breaches these terms or creates legal, security or integrity risks. If a paid flow applies, a compliant service already performed is not refundable except where required by law; failed, duplicate or unauthorized charges are handled under applicable law and Stripe procedures.
9. Availability and liability
We intend to preserve the archive for as long as reasonably possible, but permanence, uninterrupted access, discoverability and fitness for a particular purpose are not guaranteed. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or remedies that cannot legally be excluded, including mandatory consumer protections.
10. Applicable law and disputes
French law applies, without depriving consumers of mandatory protections in their country of residence. Please first contact humans@humanitytxt.com. Consumer-mediator registration is being finalized; its validated contact details will be published here as soon as the agreement is confirmed. Competent courts are determined by mandatory applicable rules.
